Some Medicare Local applicants have received charity status from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Sample company objects from these organisations are provided below.

Sample 1

1 OBJECTS OF THE COMPANY

(a) The Company will operate predominantly for the promotion, development and attainment of its objects as set out in (b);

(b) The objects of the Company are to:    
i. provide health care and health care services to the Community, including but not limited to the provision of health services;

ii. facilitate the enhancement and improvement of primary health care for all members of the local Catchment Area;

iii. support the implementation of initiatives in primary health care to improve disease prevention and management;

iv. improve consumer access to health services by improving the coordination and integration of care within the primary health care sector and across other sectors of the health care system;

v. provide better access to available and appropriate primary health care services for patients and reducing inappropriate duplication of services;

vi. improve the planning of primary health care services to respond to local needs by undertaking local health planning, identifying gaps in services, and examining opportunities for better targeting of services;

vii. support the ongoing development of primary health care infrastructure;

viii. facilitate an increased focus on the special and localised health needs of groups (such as people with disease and chronic illness conditions), particularly where these needs are not adequately addressed by the current health system;

ix. enhance workforce planning, educational and professional development opportunities for primary health care providers;

x. enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of health services at the local level;

xi. support the development of e-health and health information, including shared electronic health records, data provision to drive health system performance, service planning, monitoring and evaluation; and

xii. participate in and facilitating research and the compilation of data for statistical and research purposes in health care.

1.1 The ultimate objects of the Company are to improve the health of the local community and achieve measurable health outcomes through, amongst other things:

a) encouraging and supporting improvements in the delivery of primary health care services to patients including initiatives aimed toward improving disease prevention and management, raising patient awareness and improving access to appropriate services;

(b) improving the planning of primary health care services to identify health needs of the community, develop locally focussed and responsive health services and address service delivery gaps;

(c) promoting primary care and the centrality of general practice for the delivery of effective integrated health management for the local community;

(d) providing support to clinicians and health service providers to improve their patient care;

(e) establishing effective collaborations to deliver more coordinated, integrated, flexible and locally responsive health services;

(f) promoting a culture of efficiency, accountability and continuous improvement in the delivery of primary health care services;

(g) raising money to further the aims of the Company and to secure sufficient funds for the objects of the Company;

(h) receiving any funds and distributing these funds in a manner that best attains the objects of the Company; and

(i) doing all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the operation of the Company and otherwise for the attainment of all or any of the above objects of the Company.
