Allied Health in Residential Aged Care

Multidisciplinary teams are fundamental to primary health care and have been shown to improve health outcomes, particularly for those with chronic conditions. Multidisciplinary teams involve GPs, practice nurses, all allied health disciplines, Aboriginal Health Workers, pharmacists, carers and consumers. Within residential aged care the multidisciplinary team also involves the services care staff. Their advice and expertise is essential in the provision of treatment, prevention and rehabilitation.

Many of the numerous allied health disciplines have significant roles in the care of the approximately 200,000 older Australians living in Commonwealth funded residential aged care facilities.

Below are links to many of the allied health peak groups. Here you will find information specific to the role these groups play in aged care and on some site there are links to assist you in locating a practitioner in your area.
