In 2009 the Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) received funding from the Australian Government Department of Veterans’ Affairs to develop and implement a two hour physical and mental health co morbidities education and training package.
The package was branded as Mind the Gap and was implemented through the Divisions network. Over 1,000 health professionals attended Mind the Gap sessions. Due to the successes of the project, DVA have recently offered AGPN a funding agreement to further build upon the two hour package and develop a six hour Active Learning Module (ALM) which can be delivered as either a face to face workshop or through an online training platform. AGPN has been contracted to manage all aspects of the Project.
The six hour education content was guided by the advise and expertise of an inter-disciplinary project advisory group with representitives from CM Consulting (Health Education experts), Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian Practice Nurses Association, Australian Psychological Society, Allied Health Professional Australia, Diabetes Australia, Beyond Blue, Alzheimer's Australia, Consumers Health Forum, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS), as well as a mental health carer and consumer rep.
The project will also involve an extensive evaluation of its uptake and effectiveness.
The Workshop has been accredited for RACGP QI&CPD, ACRRM PDP and General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration Mental Health Skills Training. For full accreditation details please check sidebar menu.
