Prescribing Data in General Practice

The Australian General Practice Network (AGPN) and National Prescribing Service (NPS) are conducting a joint project - Prescribing Data in General Practice Demonstration (PDGPD) project with general practice networks around Australia.

This is a quality improvement activity for General Practitioners (GPs) and practices. A data extraction tool will be used by GPs to review their prescribing against clinical indicators to help optimise patient management. This demonstration project has been developed in two clinical areas: hypertension and chronic heart failure, and will be undertaken in a select number of general practices across Australia which will be supported by their local general practice networks. Successful participating Network Members will be funded to help practices deliver this new initiative.

Twenty divisions are participating in the project, involving 160 practices
