Rural Palliative Care Project 2008 - 2011

Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) has funded the Rural Palliative Care Project 2008 - 2010. The project will resource 36 rural and remote general practice networks, or in some areas consortia of general practice networks, to implement nationally key elements of the previous Rural Palliative Care model. AGPN is assisting DoHA to nationally coordinate the Project.

The project will provide sustainable models of rural palliative care service delivery that can be tailored to address the local needs of rural and remote communities throughout Australia. It will deliver access to quality, coordinated palliative care to most of rural Australia that urban dwellers take for granted.

It is essential to highlight that the RPC project is not designed to develop or provide new palliative care services. Rather, to enhance and ensure linkages, orientation and coordination among existing service providers (primary and tertiary) and to identify and fill gaps in service provision.
